The piece

Collectible Design — Numbered Studio Edition

Directly hand-carved from solid Moroccan walnut, this monumental bench table commands space through raw architectural presence and primal sculptural lines. Every plane of the piece—from the expansive upper slab and softened borders to the tapered conical legs and integrated headrest—bears the deliberate, rhythmic cut of traditional woodcarver's gouge chisels. This continuous all-over carving generates an expressive tactile landscape that captures shifting rake light and emphasizes the rich grain of Atlas timber. Elevated on four stout, hand-hewn legs, the silhouette bridges the dialogue between an ancestral ceremonial daybed and a monumental low table. Produced in limited studio editions, each table is individually hand-shaped, finished with natural clear hard-wax oils to preserve the raw chisel facets and silky warmth of solid Moroccan walnut.

Key Features

  • All-Over Gouged Texture: Entire piece—top surface, carved edges, integrated headrest, and conical legs—hand-hewn with traditional gouge chisels, creating a continuous rhythmic relief.

  • Monolithic Moroccan Walnut: Executed entirely in heavy, dense solid Moroccan walnut timber, providing absolute structural permanence and weighing approximately 47 kg.

  • Hand-Hewn Conical Legs: Four robust tapering supports sculpted directly with visible tool facets that mirror the upper carving.

  • Integrated Sculptural Headrest: Organic elevated rest hand-formed directly into the slab mass, anchoring its hybrid bench-and-table typology.

  • Numbered Studio Edition: Hand-crafted in numbered studio editions; subtle variances in timber grain and chisel topography render each piece distinct.

  • Scale & Dimensions: Shown: W 198 × D 77 × H 34 cm (78.0 × 30.3 × 13.4 in). Also hand-carved to bespoke dimensions upon inquiry.

Design

A design by Fatallah Benaouidat, Franco-Moroccan designer. He draws in France; the piece takes shape in Morocco. From modern art he keeps the line that is enough; from the houses of the land of his roots, a silence that turns an object into a work.

His pieces are not reproduced. They are handed down.

Care

Designed for dry indoor living spaces. Protect from direct persistent sunlight and proximity to intense heat sources or radiators to prevent natural movement of the solid wood. Clean regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth following the grain. In case of spills, wipe immediately with a clean, barely damp cloth and blot dry. Use coasters under wet or hot items. Nourish the wood surface periodically with a natural clear wax or hard-wax oil to sustain its depth and satin protection.
